18 April 1883 — 3 Savile Row
Wednesday. 18th [April 1883]. Wrote all the morning & finished copying out a thing he had given me to do. Mr & Mrs Rassam & their girl Theresa came to lunch with us. I went out driving, left cards & paid a visit to Lady Lindsay in her funny little house in Hans Place– She has taken 2 small houses & thrown them into one. I met there her mother in law old Mrs Lindsay who said the house was rather like a farm house which is true. I returned home to tea. Mrs Ball came to tea also Connie. Henry & I dined with the Rates & came home pretty early. We met her brother in law Mr Waterfield who has just come home from Egypt & has thrilling stories to tell of narrow escapes some Christians had during the massacre.
