10 May 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 10th May [1883]. Henry got up & took Morelli to the station for 7.20 train & to bid the Psses good bye. The C. Pss had left last night at midnight for Berlin. Henry came home before 8 & I got up to 9 o’cl breakfast. He brought me a letter from the Pss written at 6 am this morning in pencil asking me to buy her some brocatelle she saw at Mercato’s & again thanking us for what we had done for them. Mrs Eden came to see me in the morng. Mr Hamilton Aidé called to bid us good bye & we made him stay to lunch. After lunch went out in gondola, called on Lady Marian Alford & then went to S. Moisé & from there walked by the Piazza to S. Zaccaria to leave card on Mr Yriarte. We had hardly got back to the Piazza before a storm came up—wind & big drops of rain. We had to wait under the procuratie—there were several claps of thunder & tremendous rain—the drops came down with such force they rebounded quite half a yard on the stones. It was of short duration & we soon got back to S. Moisé’s to our gondola leave Mme Hurtado & Idita whom we met, giving little shrieks at each flash of lightening. Ld & Ly Egerton of Tatton called on us & Mrs Eden bringing a Mrs Amies to be introduced to us. We could not go out after dinner as it was blowing very hard—& it blew all night.
