19 July 1883 — Berlin | |
Thursday. 19th July [1883]. Henry went to the Gallery in the morng. I stayed at home & read & wrote. At 12 he returned. 12.30 Sir John & Lady Walsham called. They stayed lunch with us & we lunched at the Restaurant. Afterwards Lady W. & I went off in a cab shopping. I bought a bonnet & some lace & gloves & then we went to the Embassy Chancery where we found Sir John & Henry. Made the acquaintance of young Mr Cartwright—a young attaché son of our friend the M.P. Henry & I walked back to the Hotel & remained in till 5 when we went down & dined. At 7 went to the Carl Friederich Theatre & heard a little operetta called the “Bettel student,” rather pretty music & well acted. Walked home by 10. Tea & bed. | |
