18 July 1883 — Dresden
Wednesday. 18th July [1883]. After breakfast we went to the Porcelain Museum full of splendid Chinese & Japanese china. From here we walked to the Japanese Palace on the other side of the Elbe a pretty little palace with nice gardens where antiques, bronzes & statues are kept. We found there some Assyrian marbles which had been bought from Dr Badger. They were marked as being from Kouyunjik & Henry said they were from Nimroud. He asked to see the Director who was absent. We found an intelligent guard & explained it to him & Henry wrote a message on his card to explain to the Director. We walked back to the hotel. It was raining off & on the whole time. Lunched & left Dresden by 2.35 train & reached Berlin at 6. Sir J. Walsham sent a chancery servant to meet us & we went to Centrale Hotel & got very good rooms.
