6 August 1883 — Munich | |
Monday. 6th August [1883]. Henry went off to the gallery after breakfast. I wrote letters & then abt 11 walked to the Königinstrasse 2 to call on Emily, Bss Reitzenstein. I found her at home & sat talking with her a long time. She offered to walk back to the hotel with me & so we went together going to some shops en route. I found Henry at home & the necklaces found. The chancery servant had given the handsome reward of 1 mark to the cab man! wh he said was quite sufficient. Henry & I went down to lunch & found the table d’hôte just beginning so we joined it & had just finished dinner when Mrs MacDonell & her boy Freddy called in a cab to fetch us & we went to the station. There we met Mr MacDonell & little Edgar & young Mr Ford who arrived this morning en route for Athens to join his father the Minister. We all went by train to the Lake of Starnberg which took abt ¾ hour. We found a steamer waiting & in her we made the tour of the lake. It is a very pretty lake with little villages, villas & pleasure gardens all along its shores & mountains rising in the distance. We returned to the train at 7.15 & got back to Munich at 8.20. We all drove to the Legation & had a cold supper there & then Henry & I returned to our hotel. | |
