7 September 1883 — La Punta, Longarone
Friday. 7th September [1883]. Sir Henry & Mr Thompson left Longarone at 9 oclock to drive to Vittorio. They go to Venice—dine there—& go on by night train to Baveno. As soon as they left Henry & I got into Malcolms light carriage and drove to Tai to meet the Rates. We had a lovely drive but I was not feeling well & had a heavy cold in my head which made me feel cold & wretched. We stopped at Tai & ordered our lunch & then drove on a little way along the road to Cortina in hopes of meeting our friends. We soon came upon them. Henry got out & changed places with Mrs Rate—& we explained to each other how it was we had not met before. She said Mr Rate had wanted to remain on at Cortina to make expeditions. We had our lunch as soon as we got back to Tai & then Alice Rate & I drove in M’s carriage to Cadore. Henry, Mr Rate & Margie walked– After showing them the church, Titian’s house & walking thro’ the village Alice & I drove off to Longarone & got there at 4. The others only got to La Punta at 5. We had tea & then I went up to bed my cold being very bad. Alice came & lay on the sofa in my room till she had to go down to dinner. I got warm & was better—read.
