12 October 1883 — Florence | |
Friday. 12th [October 1883]. Mr Colnaghi came at 10. Before that one Luigi presented himself to ask for the place of maestro di casa. He is young & active looking & intelligent. We promised to let him know later. Mr Colnaghi accompanied us to the Uffizi and we spent the morning there. At 1 I walked back to the Hotel with Mr C. & Henry went to see Sir James Hudson & returned & lunched with me at 2. We took a walk in the afternoon & went to Mrs Sloane’s to see if she was in town & found she was gone to the country. Back to hotel abt 4.30. Dined at table d’hôte at 6.30. Cribbage. | |
