11 October 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 11th October [1883]. Packed & arranged for departure– Sir Edw & Lady de Gex came to see the pictures & she bought some Burano lace. Miss Holas called also & the Miss Monks. Henry & I lunched at 12 & went off to the Station to go to Florence. We left Cortelazzo staying on a day or two more & he nearly persuaded Giovanni to give up his intention of leaving us– It was finally settled that Giov: shd write his final decision to us at Florence within a week. Miss Barbara Lyall went by the same train with us to Florence. We had a very short time to wait at Bologna. We dined on our provisions en route & got to Florence at 9. Mr Colnaghi met us & we found he had taken us rooms at the Gran Bretagne. Miss Lyall went to the Milano. Had tea & retired to bed.
