30 October 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 30th October [1883]. Up at 7. Breakfast at 9. Busy all morning rearranging furniture in studio & tydying rooms. After lunch went out in gondola with Henry; just after we started we saw Ersilia Canevaro & Andriana Marcello starting off by steamer & they called out they were coming to me at 4 & so I went to buy some pots of maiden hair & then hurried home but they did not come after all. Mrs & Miss Bronson & Miss Browning & Browning came to tea. We heard they had a project for going to Greece on Thursday so I asked them to see them before they started. It turned out that they had given it up and thought the season too late for starting. Sir John & Lady De Gex dined with us. They leave Venice tomorrow.
