22 November 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 22nd [November 1883]. Emily Reitzenstein having arrived from Munich came to see me in the morning & stayed a long time talking. I practised my duett. Directly after lunch Henry & I went to Kirchmayr’s studio to see the picture of Css Hoyo’s 7 children. They are lovely children but the picture did not please me—the 2 girls in the background seemed out of drawing—the costumes strained & the flesh tints too mauve. I left Henry at the Stabto & went on to pay visits. I met Mrs Bronson & the Brownings at the Riva dei Schiavoni & walked a little with them. I also met Emily & conveyed her back to her hotel the Italie. Maria Cozzi & little José Canevaro came to tea. I sat till dinner time talking to Mr Burton. He told me he had had an operation on both eyes for glaucoma. Emily R. dined with us. We sat in the studio in the evening.
