23 November 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 23rd November [1883]. Had our guitar lesson & Miss Bronson stayed to lunch & then in the afternoon we looked over the hymn tunes for Sunday. The Soverals called & the Vicomte told me how Testolini had tried to sell him Munich glass as Venetian. Mrs Nawes the American consul’s wife called on me. It appears that cards I intended for Mrs West reached Mrs Nawes by mistake as they live in the same house. There was a white fog nearly all day & it was cold. Mr & Mrs Claude Colthorpe & his sister came to tea. He is an artist & they seem nice people. Henry & I played cribbage & écarté in the evening.
