5 December 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 5th December [1883]. I gave over to our new man Luigi the stores he has to keep candles, tea &c. Olga came at 10 to sit to me. While we were at lunch Emily R came to see me—& we took her out in the gondola to Malcolm’s garden to see the Banana flower & then we went to the Piazza & to Onganias & left Emily to walk home. I went to see Ersilia & found her at home. On the way home was struck by the beauty of the after glow which lighted up all the windows & sides of the house most beautifully & was a magnificent sight. I found Cortelazzo & his lawyer with Henry talking over the poisoning affair. Cortelazzo was very anxious Henry shd write a letter to the judge in his favour!! which Henry declined to do. I practised my guitar till dinner. Mr Malcolm dined with us & Emily R. came in the evening.
