6 December 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 6th December [1883]. Olga sat to me till 12. Mrs Eden came in for a few minutes. We lunched at 12 & then Henry went to attend the meeting of the Vetreria. I went at 2 to the Edens & we went to their garden on the Giudecca & walked about there some time. We found it bitterly cold. Met there Mme Wolkoff & her 2 children. She was a Miss Gore & her husband a russian amateur artist of some cleverness. I took Carry Eden to the Brazzoduro garden & we bought some nice mignonette plants & then hastened home. Henry was home & said there had been high words at the meeting between Castellani & Malcolm—the formers “honor” & “delicacy” having been offended. Mrs Bronson, Mr Browning, Miss Browning & Miss Lyall came to dinner. Emily R came in the evening. The Brownings leave on Saty & we gave them this farewell feast. Cortelazzo came to bid us goodbye as he returned today to Vicenza.
