7 December 1883 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 7th December [1883]. Olga at 11 to sit to me & Miss St Clair came at the same time & sat some while with us. At 11 Miss Bronson & Negri came for the guitar lesson. Miss B. stayed to lunch & afterwards we sang over the sunday music. Giovanni came at 2 and we had another parting. He kissed my hand again but was calmer than the last day– Our new footman is ill & has to return home—so we begged Giovanni to try & find us a waiter wh he promised to do. He said he was going to leave for England tomorrow and promised to take charge of Mrs Kennedy’s maid Coard. Henry returned for me at 2.30 & we went out in gondola. He stopped at the Stabto for a few minutes & then we went & walked on the Piazza for ½ hour. Lovely weather but very cold. I went to see Ersilia & then home to tea. Wrote letters. Went to dine at 7.30 with Mr & Mrs Eden & only met Miss Ker there. Home by 11.
