17 January 1884 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Thursday. 17th January [1884]. Better but did not go out. Wrote a quantity of letters. Col. Tweedie came to lunch being on his way back to England from Baghdad where he has been Resident the last year & half. He is a middle aged nice looking grave man. He came in uniform en grand tenue. He is in the Indian Army & has been very distinguished. Henry took him out in the afternoon & he returned & dined with us & went away at 10.30 to the station to resume his journey to England. He had been delayed 7 days on acct of quarantine & was anxious to get home as his mother was dying. | |
