18 January 1884 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 18th January [1884]. Olga came to see me in the morning & to show me how to crochet a quilt like one she has done. After lunch I went out in gondola with Ersilia & we went to the Colsina to meet Dr Simcola & then went across to the Giudecca to the Brazzoduro garden where E bought some plants. Then she left me at the Edens & I sat with Carry until Henry came. He had been to Murano & called for me on his way home. Mrs Bronson also came there. We came home by 4.30 & Pss Marie Dolgorouky came to see me & at the same time Mrs Jopling & Mrs West. The Pss was full of a bal costumé wh Pss Iturbide was going to give & of costumes to get up for her young friends. Dined alone & in evening we went to the Canevaros. Henry played whist. There were a good many people there—Pss Dolgorouky, Mme Pilat, Mme Valmarana &c. Ersilia sang– We talked, had tea—& returned home nearly 12 oclock.
