18 February 1884 — 3 Savile Row
Monday. 18th February [1884]. I wrote & was busy all the morng & worked. Maria went out for an hour. Connie called in to see if I could take her out driving & said she would see if Blanche wd take out Maria. Henry’s brother Frederic came to lunch & while we were at lunch Connie came back & we finally settled that Maria shd go out with me. So at 2.30 she & I went off shopping together & only got home at 5. Arthur came in for a few minutes before dinner. We 3 went to dine at the Burr’s & had a very pleasant evening. Met Mrs Tom Taylor & her daughter also Mr F. Burton, Mr Fergusson, Sir Henry Thompson & in the evening Mr Ball & Mrs A’Court (Mellony) & her husband & Lady Otway all came there. Mrs T. Taylor played the piano in the evening more beautifully than she ever did & her daughter played the violin with much feeling.
