2 March 1884 — 3 Savile Row
Sunday. 2nd March [1884]. I went at 10.30 to Hamilton House to take Cornelia to church at St Margaret’s Westr. We went there in a hansom and Lady May gave us seats in her pew. We heard Canon Farrar preach & he was eloquent & learned as usual. After church Cornelia & I walked back to Hamilton Hse thro’ Green Park & I left her there & went on to lunch with the Baroness & Mr Burdett Coutts & Henry met me there. They were quite alone & very pleasant & kind to us. We walked home to Savile Row & rested for ½ hour & then at 3 set off in the brougham to call on Mrs Drummond. I had not seen her since she had had one of her eyes removed. She is wonderfully well considering. Met there Mr Kegan Paul the publisher a very agreeable man. We went on to call on Fred & Mrs Layard at St John’s Wood & met there Mr & Mrs Hodgson Pratt– He is an old friend of Henry’s & is going over to Paris to have an operation performed for cataract. We came home abt 6.30. Dined alone.
