17 March 1884 — 3 Savile Row
Monday. 17th March [1884]. Busy writing all the morning. Walked out to see Lady Ely. Maria came up to lunch with me. She had been to Oxford & did not arrive till nearly 2. At 3 she & I went over a charming little house in Audley Square No 5. It was apparently just what we wanted & it has just been done up & put in order. We did other commissions & returned to Savile Row for tea & Maria went home. Henry & I dined at Mrs Drummond’s. The first dinner she has given since she lost her eye. Met Adl & Mrs McClintock, Sir Joseph & Lady Hooker, Mr Browning, Mr Bunbury & Mr Fergusson. Mrs Drummond wore a black shade over her eyes but was otherwise as usual & took her place as tho’ nothing bad had happened since last we dined there.
