21 March 1884 — 3 Savile Row
Friday. 21st [March 1884]. Mrs Burr called for me at 11 & I went with her to call on Mr Fergusson at 20 Langham Place and met there Mrs Kay & he showed me the model he had made of the Parthenon with the goddess in the centre lighted from above as he conceives it was originally done. She brought me home at 12.30. Blanche came here to lunch & then she & I drove together—shopped &c– Home at 5. I took Blanche [to] see 5 Audley Sqr & she was delighted with it. It was announced today that Edward Ponsonby has been appointed Secy to the Speaker which is a great delight to him & Blanche. The Misses Monk came to tea. Maria came to fetch Alice but we begged her to let her remain on a little while. Henry & I dined with Mr & Mrs Poynter—& met Mr & Mrs Jeune, Mr & Mrs Austin, Mr Batten & 2 other people whose names I did not find out.
