25 March 1884 — 3 Savile Row
Tuesday. 25th March [1884]. Mrs Burr came to see me & sat some time talking. Mrs Austin also came to lunch. Alice Du Cane went home to Roehampton & agreed to return tomorrow. I drove out in the afternoon & went to Mrs Pascoe Grenfell. It was her day & consequently there was no pleasure in the visit for as soon as I began to talk to her there came several other ladies unknown to me so I left soon & went on to the Misses Duff Gordons’ who were giving an afternoon musical party. There were a good many ladies of my acquaintance & a spare sprinkling of men– I managed to make my escape after hearing a couple of songs wh did not much edify me & I went home to Henry who was not able to go out as he had such a bad cold. Mrs Hobart Hampden came to tea & also Mr Rate—& later Blossett Alderson whom I had not seen for a long time. Henry & I dined with Blanche & Edward. met Lady Reay, Sir Reginald Welby, Mr & Mrs Lecky, Miss Melita Ponsonby, May Ponsonby & Mr               . Blanche sang in the evening.
