26 March 1884 — 3 Savile Row
Wednesday. 26th March [1884]. Miserable east wind. Henry’s cold very bad & I quite out of sorts. Alice returned here by lunch time. Henry stayed in bed till lunch time to nurse his cold. After lunch I went out in carriage with Alice. Called in a moment at Mrs Rate’s & then went to the Concert at Lady Lyttons to hear the juvenile orchestra composed chiefly of girls. The Princess of Wales & the 3 young Princesses were there. I got a seat next to Blanche & Cornelia but I felt so unwell that I came away after half an hour & returned home & sat quiet till dinner time. We dined with Mme Blumenthal—a great many people & I knew only Col. & Mrs Colville. General Eliot took me to dinner & I found him to be an amateur sculptor so we got on together well. Lady Tiering & Mr & Mrs Ricardo I got to know later– Ld & Ly Chetwynd were also of the party.
