5 April 1884 — 3 Savile Row
Saturday. 5th April [1884]. I wrote letters all the morning. Henry & I lunched alone for a wonder. Henry went to Hamilton House to ask again about Mama’s arrival & found she is expected this evening at 5 & that Ivor is going to meet her. After lunch Henry & I went out driving together. We went to 37 Chesham Place to call on Lady Tavistock. Henry said he had not been in that house since it had been inhabited by Lord John Russell when he was Prime Minister. I took Henry to Poynter’s studio & left him there whilst I went on to see Connie. I found her that moment returned from Windsor from attending the Duke of Albany’s funeral having gone in attendance on Princess Frederica. She said it had been a very impressive ceremony & that the Queen had got thro’ it well—but that a young officer who sat behind Connie had sobbed all the while. He had been a friend of the poor Duke’s. I took Connie out with me & we called for Henry & took him as far as the Park & he walked home. Connie & I went to call on Lady Somers & then we went to 15 Queen Anne St to see Blanche & have tea. We found Kitty & Temmie there & presently Cornelia came & said Mamma had arrived and she & Ivor had met her & brought her to Langham Hse & she had left Ivor there still talking to her. Connie went on to Langham Hse to see Mamma– I & Cornelia walked to our homes together abt 6 o’cl. At 8 Henry & I went to dine at Hamilton House. They were quite alone & we went home early.
