10 April 1884 — Inwood, Henstridge, Somerset
Thursday. 10th April [1884]. I spent the morning beginning to make a reduction in wax of the medallion I had made of Henry & of wh I have a photograph. Took a walk in the garden with Henry & went to pay a visit to Benjamin Lady Westr’s old footman who is ill & lives in a cottage in the grounds. He showed me a bullfinch he had brought up & taught to pipe most beautifully the tune of Jenny Jones. Rd, Maria, Alice & the twins were expected down to stay here & Mrs Austin also. Their train wh shd have been in after 5 did not arrive till near 7 & we had to improvise caps for Temmy & Maria in order to get to dinner at 7.30 as their luggage was still behind. Merthyr & I tried over glees in the evening & Alice played the accompaniment.
