18 April 1884 — Inwood, Henstridge, Somerset
Friday. 18th April [1884]. Worked all the morning at wax & was hard at work when Clark the butler announced a lady & gentleman whose name I did not catch. I spoke to them “pretty” & when Theo came down I found them to be Ld & Ly Richard Grosvenor. They only stayed abt ½ hour. Merthyr got news of the Poole Election that a Conservative Mr Harris had been elected in the place of Mr Schreiber. Henry & I took a long walk round by the cottages of Yenston. There was a dinner party at Inwood a Mr & Mrs Rome came to dine & sleep. Mr & Mrs Doddington came over to dine & a gentleman who was quite blind with his wife. Mr Doddington took me to dinner & the blind man sat on the other side. He was very agreeable & got thro’ his eating wonderfully cleverly. After dinner Merthyr & I sang to the company.
