24 May 1884 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 24th May 1884. Breakfasted at 9 & then busied abt the house putting out china & arranging the drawing rooms & putting up lovely roses which Mr Malcolm sent me. It took me & Alice nearly all day doing this & it really was pretty hard work. Abt 4 oclock we rested. Alice went out with Henry & returned to tea in the Studio with me. Then at 7 they set off again to go & meet the Murrays at the station who were coming to stay with us. They arrived in due time & we dined latish & sat in the Belvidere in the evening & watched the progress of a boat coming down the canal with music & bengal lights & were glad to go to bed a little after 11.
