19 July 1884 — La Punta, Longarone
Saturday. 19th [July 1884]. Heat suffocating. Ther: 87°. Dark & lowering weather which promised a storm. Abt middle day the storm began & then it cleared. After tea (4 o’cl) we thought it had cleared so we went out for a drive but the storm began afresh & tho’ Giuseppe the coachman declared it would be nothing & drove on valiantly the rain came down steadily—it thundered & hailed & we made him turn home where he arrived wet through. We had to sit indoors– Played cribbage.
