18 October 1884 — Florence
Saturday. 18th October [1884]. Henry went out directly after breakfast. At ¼ 10 I & Regina walked to the Uffizzi & there I remained & painted until 12.30. The day was dark & light bad. At 1 Mr & Mrs Ross came to luncheon & Mr Colnaghi also came to call. At 3 Henry & I went off to Bardini the antiquarian to see a collection of 100 old picture frames for wh he asks £4000 & which he has offered to the S. Kensington Museum. We did not think much of them. Mr Bardini seems a rather refined kind of man. He has arranged a splendid palace for his shop & has a good picture or two & some fine stuffs. We walked to Sta Croce & went round looking at the Monuments– Took a carriage & went to leave a card on the Prefect &c & back early to the hotel. I painted till dark. Dined at 7.30. Read aloud Ruskin to Henry. Cribbage.
