5 November 1884 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 5th [November 1884]. Cortelazzo sat talking to me most of the morning & then went away by the 1 o’cl train. Mrs Eden came to see us after luncheon & we took her to Biraghi’s to see the work he is doing for Ivor’s staircase at Canford. Then we parted, Henry & I went to the Casa Semeticolo to call on Mrs Montalba & to see Clara M’s sketches before she sends them away to England for exhibition. We then returned home. Mrs West & her 2 eldest daughters came to tea also Count Canevaro. Dined 7 & in evening we went to the Canevaros. The Valmaranas & Ct & Css Morosini & Baron Cotoni? a young Milanese gentleman were there. Henry had his rubber of whist & we lively conversation & we did not get home till ¼ 12.
