18 December 1884 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Thursday. 18th December [1884]. It poured all the morning & tho’ I had promised to go & walk with Lady Arthur Russell I had to give it up. Lady Gregory came in for a little while before lunch. Alice Du Cane came & as it cleared a little I took her out shopping for ½ hour & returned to lunch– She went away directly after. I went to Susan Hambro & then at 3 drove to pay calls. Found Mrs Poynter at home & went to see Connie who arrived yesterday in town. Had tea there. At 5.30 I went to pick up Henry at the Gregorys & we came home. Dined with Sir Wm Drake & met the Tom Bruces, the Haseltines & Mr Ralph Disraeli & his daughter. He is the real Jewish type. The girl is quite different & rather nice looking. Read aloud to Henry before bed time.
