7 March 1885 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Saturday. 7th March [1885]. Mr Vigor came & I gave him a sitting to touch up my portrait. It was very cold & rather foggy & at lunch time became quite dark. I went to see Mama for a moment & then to Blanche & at 3 we went off to the Paddington Station & went down to Aldermaston. Mr Cartwright MP. went down with us. Lovely day in the country but cold. Found a small party at Aldermaston, Mr Sydney Parry, Mrs Lewis of St Pierre, Major & Mrs R. Thurlow & also Major Thurlow whom we had met before, Miss Sutherland & 2 young Scobell nephews of Mr Burr. The Squire still an invalid but able to talk & play whist. In the evening Henry, Mrs Lewis, Mr Cartwright & I played dominoes & it was very amusing as Mr C did not know how to play at all.
