6 March 1885 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Friday. 6th March [1885]. Directly after lunch I walked with Henry to Langham Place to see Mr Fergusson who has been ill and was glad to see us. He has a charming house between the St. George’s hall & the church, wh he built himself on the site of the York Barracks. He took us to the back of the house & showed us an immense tumble down shed wh is what remains of the barracks & has till now been used as a stable & is now for sale. Henry went to the Nat. Gallery. I went to see Cornelia & found her at home. There came in a fog & it became so cold & rainy that I hastened home—going first to see Blanche– Bee Eliot came to tea & Connie joined her later. Dined at home & went afterwards to Mr Post’s at 20 Chester Terrace. They have a tiny little house– Miss Duff Gordon, Mme Du Quaire, Mme Reyntiens, my brother Arthur, & a Mr Long a musical gentleman were there. Mr Long played & Mme Reyntiens & Mr Post sang a great deal—they sang the grand duo in the Huguenots wonderfully well.
