27 May 1885 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 27th [May 1885]. Miss Holas came to explain about the catalogue of our books she is making & to borrow money for her journey to Germany where she is going as governess & we lent her 200 fcs. Henry sat to Mr Vigor for his portrait & I also went & began a sketch of him. Mr Malcolm called & I asked him to go out with me this afternoon as Henry was going to Murano with the Oldfields. He said he would gladly do so & be with me at 4. Henry went out directly after lunch. Mr Malcolm & I started at 4 & rowed up to the station round by the Giudecca to the Edens’ garden. We paid them a visit & came home by 6. At the Edens met Mrs Gaskell & Miss Balfour who are staying with them. Henry went out after dinner. I sat upstairs & wrote. I am declared disinfected & out of quarantine. Olga Mocenigo came & spent the eveng with me.
