31 July 1885 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 31st July [1885]. I sat to Mr Vigor for the last time. Dr Cini came to see me. Mrs Eden came to see me, also Lady Bagot. After lunch Capt. Briscoe called & at 4 I went to bid the Edens & Mrs Bloomfield Moore good bye & then Henry took me to see Genl de Horsey who is still in bed tho’ recovering from his operation & in wonderful spirits. Got home abt 6 & had a visit from the Grand Dss of Mecklenburg Schwerin (Olga Mocenigo’s sister). She came with her lady in waiting Mme Colombe. Css Pisani came to bid me good bye at the same time. We dined early & went to the Gala theatre at the Fenice with Sir John Lumley. It was a very pretty sight– The Queen looked lovely. She sent for Sir John to her box where he remained some time. The Canevaros were at the theatre & did not leave today as they had intended.
