1 August 1885 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 1st August [1885]. Olga Mocenigo who has suddenly returned to Venice from Austria came to see us at breakfast time. Henry, Sir John & I went off by 11. o’cl train with Mr Malcolm. We lunched at Vittorio & thence drove abt 4 o’cl to Longarone. We had a thunderstorm en route which relieved the oppression in the air & we reached La Punta abt 8 with good appetites. We found Mr Malcolm’s nephew Mr Dutton & his wife there– He was a wreck of a fine man—seemed ill & had a good uninteresting wife—neither young but not long married. There was also a Mrs Western wife of a Capt. of the P&O & her little girl. Dined & went early to bed.
