18 August 1885 — Rosenlaui | |
Tuesday. 18th August [1885]. Spent the morning sketching the waterfall behind the hotel. It was very chilly & I had to come in before lunch. As I passed the sitting room I heard Miss Ritchie playing the piano & I went in & found her playing to Mrs Kemble so I fetched Henry to hear it. After lunch Henry & I took a walk up the hill behind the hotel & back round by the Meiringen road. It was cold & rainy as we came in. I brought out my cards & Mr & Mrs Dutton, Lord Monkswell & Henry played whist after dinner. Miss Ritchie played the piano awhile in the sitting room & then Miss Maxwell, Mrs Ball & I went to my room & chatted till bed time. | |
