19 August 1885 — Rosenlaui
Wednesday. 19th August [1885]. It was still very cold & I could not spend more than an hour this morning to finish my sketch of the waterfall. After lunch Henry, Mr Ball, Miss Ritchie, Mme Galetti & her little boy, Mr Maxwell & I went for a walk. We climbed up the hill on the other side of the hill through a lovely wood & came down again on the Meiringen road & so back to the Hotel. There was the whist party after dinner & Miss Ritchie took me up to Mrs Kembles room & then we had tea & I had a charming long chat with her not going down to bed till past 10 o’cl & we parted very good friends & I asked leave to go & see her when I was next in London.
