17 September 1885 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 17th September [1885]. After lunch we went to the Europe & joined the Royal Party. Henry & I went in the C. Princess’s gondola & we all went to Mr Eden’s garden. In the early morning we had a visit from the Crown Princess accompanied by Fraülein v. Gersdorff. They came at 11 to see Mr Vigor’s portrait of Henry & Mr Vigor came to meet HIH & stayed lunch with us & went to the Edens garden also. Henry, Mlle de P. & I stayed in the garden to pick flowers for our dinner table & went home abt 5. Had tea. The Canevaros who are in town for a few days came to tea. The Crown Princess & Princess Victoria, Sophia & Margaret dined with us & Count Seckendorff & Fraulein v. Gersdorff. The Canevaros & Mr Malcolm came in the evening. The Princesses & Co, Henry & Rachel went to the Piazza about 10. Addie, Ersilia & I remained at home & Ersilia sang to us & we sat talking some time & made Ersilia let down her long hair to show us.
