23 October 1885 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 23rd October [1885]. By way of deciding which cabinet of those we have here we should take to London the Gregorys & I began to move about the furniture after dinner. Henry was engaged with Dr Richter upstairs. In the midst of our occupation when the house was all upside down the Max Müllers came to call to ask to be allowed to see the pictures & they stayed some time & came upstairs to the library & studio. When they were gone we tidyed it all & then I went to the china closet & settled what china to take to England. Lord Dunmore came to lunch to take leave as he is going away to England. I painted after lunch & went out abt 4. Went to meet Henry at the Stabto & saw there the Hammonds. Went to take a turn on the Piazza with Sir F. Burton while Henry was with Genl de Horsey & then home to tea with Lady Gregory in the studio. Had a fire in evening. Played whist.
