25 October 1885 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 25th October [1885]. A pouring wet day—scirocco—& dull– I persuaded Lady Gregory to let me send for the Dr as she had a rash. Cini came & pronounced it nettle rash—“proprio orticaria classica”—told her to stay in bed & said she must not travel tomorrow upon which we decided to put off our departure till Tuesday. I did not go to church, spent a restless morng putting away things, seeing all sorts of people who came such as Castellani, the Buranella &c &c. Mr Vigor came to lunch. In the afternoon—many interruptions—visits from Dr & Mrs Richter, Mr Lathbury the Editor of the Guardian & his wife, daughter of the Bonamy Prices. Mr Malcolm dined with us & Mr & Miss Maxwell. I played the harmonium & Miss Maxwell & I made cigarettes.
