9 November 1885 — Florence
Monday. 9th November [1885]. I saw Augusta Gregory one moment in her room to take leave of her. She & Sir Wm return to Bologna today, tomorrow to our house at Venice & Thursday they start by P&O on a trip to India. Henry & I went off from Florence by the 8.35 train to Rome. We were fortunate eno’ to get places in the Sleeping car & were able to rest after the bad night we had last night. The train was a fast one & punctual & at 4 we arrived at Rome & were met at the station by Sir John Savile Lumley & he drove us to the Embassy & gave us some tea. At 7 we dined in a small room which he has hung with a complete set of copies of the Velasquez pictures of Madrid done by Mr Molony whom we had known there. We sat in Sir John’s study in the evening & were glad to go early to bed. We have a very nice little suite of rooms on the entresol looking into the garden.
