8 November 1885 — Florence
Sunday. 8th November [1885]. I went off to church alone in a cab to the Via Lamarmora. Singing good—service indifferently read—sermon almost inaudible. Henry took the Gregorys to Sta Croce. I walked back to the Hotel & lunched– I found Mr Spence waiting our return. At 3 Henry & I drove up to Villa del Pino di Careggi to see Miss Macleod. It was a fine afternoon. We found Miss M. expecting us & we sat an hour with her & then drove back to our hotel. Lady & Miss Madge Hammond came up to see us. Mr Richter also called & later Mr Gibbs & his son & daughter & also Mr Colnaghi. We all dined downstairs, the Gregorys & we and took leave of each other early. I made some cigarettes for Henry & we retired to bed at 10. Henry was taken with a fit of Oriental fever & we got no rest till nearly 3 when he became quiet & slept.
