4 December 1885 — Paris | |
Friday. 4th [December 1885]. Henry arranged with the Director of the Louvre Mr Gruyer that I should go to his private room to copy a picture wh he removed from the gallery on purpose for me. It is a small tiny picture an Annunciation with Lorenzo da Credi’s name on the frame but wh Morelli says is by Leonardo da Vinci. Henry showed me the room & installed me & left me there. I remained drawing till 1.30 when I returned to lunch. Dacre came to lunch & he & I went on foot [to] the Louvre shop to choose Alice an opera cloak. It came on to rain hard so we went on in a cab, I to shop & Dacre to his work. Henry & I dined with the Walshams & met Sir G. & Lady Bonham, Dr Herbert (Ld Carnarvon’s brother) & Mr Townley (a secy). | |
