1 May 1886 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Saturday. 1st May [1886]. Walked out in the morng with Maria to help to order Nela’s ball gown. Went to see the Edgar Layards & home to lunch. I took Maria to the private view of the Grosvenor. Henry went to the Academy. Maria & I stayed at the Grosvenor until 5 & then walked back here to tea. The Gregorys & Connie & Bee came to tea. We agreed that the Grosvenor has better pictures than the R.A. this year. I was so tired that when Henry went off to dine at the R.A. I retired to my room, had tea & went to bed at 9. When Henry came in at 12 he said the dinner had been very pleasant & that when Leighton gave the health of the Queen wishing her long to reign over the United Kingdom there was tremendous applause lasting 5 minutes.
