30 April 1886 — 1 Queen Anne Street | |
Friday. 30th [April 1886]. We went to the Private View of the Royal Academy. A great crowd of people & we met a lot of friends. We stayed from 3 till past 5 & then came home exhausted not having seen much of the pictures & what we saw were not very impressive except Burne Jones’ “syren.” Mrs & Miss Bronson & Robert Browning dined with us & Arthur Du Cane—& we had a pleasant quiet evening. We asked Mrs Bronson whether the report of cholera at Venice. She said that there is no real Asiatic cholera there but some other mysterious illness wh answers the same purpose. | |
