14 July 1886 — Syltebo, Romsdalsfjord
Wednesday. 14th [July 1886]. Lovely day. After writing my letters I started off with Edgar to the Lake where we fished on the Overaas side & I got 8 trout. We eat our lunch in the boat. We made Andreas climb the rocks for wild flowers to bring to Fred & I wanted some tufts of [illegible word] Pride of wh there were splendid plants on the rocks. We got home abt 5. There was a fearful accident last night in the valley. The Captn of the steamer fm Christiansund that brought our yesterday’s post just brought his mother in law & his 4 children to spend a couple of days in the valley. They went for a drive in a stuhlcart taking 2 children of this valley. Coming down a steep hill on this side the valley the horse ran away, they were upset, the old woman killed & several children hurt. A Dr has been sent for fm Molde & no one knows when he will arrive. We dined at 7. Henry went fishing at 9. I fished from the bridge 0. A gale sprang up & I was in great alarm abt Henry & could not go to bed until he came in at 12—fishing of course had been impossible– We had a fearful night—it blew great guns from the South—very little sleep was to be had.
