14 October 1886 — Valmarino, Vittorio
Thursday. 14th [October 1886]. Breakfast in our rooms & then at 10 we left Valmarino & drove to Vittorio which we reached at ¼ 12. Lunched & found Mr Malcolms carriage waiting for us & set off at 12.30 for Longarone sending Gigia back to Venice with the large boxes. It was fine & hot as far as Sta Croce when a storm burst. We quickly shut up the carriage & then the hail came down. We amused ourselves with games & singing on the way. When we got near Longarone we found snow on the road—& the hills all round quite white. We reached La Punta at 10. Mr Malcolm & Mr Colnaghi greeted us. We had tea to warm ourselves. Unpacked & dressed for dinner at 7. Isabel & Henry played cribbage & Mr Malcolm & Mr Colnaghi, Katie & I played whist.
