22 January 1887 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 22nd [January 1887]. I spent nearly all the morning over my lace pillow conquering the pattern & succeeded. Afternoon we went to the Piazza & walked & then I went to see Mrs Bronson & from her to Mrs Peabody Russell & then home. Emily came to tea. Mr Malcolm dined with us & took us to the Fenice; it was the first night of the Tannhauser—a very full & brilliant house. The Overture was encored. It was pretty well sung. The [illegible word] a handsome woman was the prima. Her voice rather metallic. There was little applause.
