12 March 1887 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Saturday. 12th [March 1887]. Practised guitar. Wrote letters. Took a short walk with Blanche at 12.30. Hatzfeldt came to lunch. I stayed at home all afternoon. Visit from Lady Bury & her girl—later from Miss Duff Gordon. Abt 6 I went to see Mama & Kate– Home to dress & we went to dine with the De Gex’s where we met Judge Bacon an old man of 90. A little bright looking man with all his faculties abt him. Sir F. Leighton sat by me at dinner & was very pleasant. Mr Marcus Stone talked to me after dinner. There was music in the evening– Lazarus played the hautboy very shakily so much so that I took him for an amateur. Mrs A. Levi sang with an agile unsympathetic tuneless voice—& a tenor sang about Margarita in a way [that] taxed ones gravity almost to excess. We came away early.
