18 March 1887 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Friday. 18th [March 1887]. Cold continues & it snowed off & on all day. I had a guitar lesson in the morning. Lunched at 1 & after lunch Blanche & Alice Murray came to help me to dress for the Drawing Room. I wore cream colour dress trimmed with my wedding brussels lace, & we made at home the train wh was cream faille with brown plush stripes—fastened on by the shoulders. We started soon after 2 & did not get there till just 3 as we got into the string of carriages & could not get out. We were however just in time. The Queen shook hands with us both & said to Henry that she was very glad to see him. We came away directly after we had got past the Queen. Mildred was after all presented by her mother but I did not see her. We went to Langham House to show ourselves in gay attire to Kate & Mama & there found Mrs Palgrave calling. Came home & waited for tea to show myself to the Du Canes & Mrs Poynter & Amy Layard & her father & my brother Arthur. Then I gladly undressed. Arthur told me of his troubles—but he had dined with Cornelia & taken Mildred on Tuesday but that afterwards he had taken M. to his house & told her all abt the reasons for his separation from her mother—which was a terrible thing to have to do. We dined at Hamilton Hse & met Lady Somers and Lord & Lady Kenman, & Lady Daisy Brown, Mr Clark & Mr Martin of Dowlais. Not very lively.
